Choose Others
Oftentimes it is our attitude that is the difference between success and failure. William James once wrote, “the greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.” Our lives are made up of millions of choices. Some are made for you, but the choices that you make for yourself are the ones that count the most.
The attitude that you have right now regarding your life and work. is the one that you are choosing. Is it the one that you want?
The Stanford Research Institute says that when it comes to the money we make in any endeavor, only 12.5 percent of it can be attributed to the knowledge you have. 87.5 percent of being financially successful is determined by your ability to deal with people.
Teddy Roosevelt said, “The most important single ingredient to the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.”
Think of it this way….
YOU CAN’T GIVE AWAY WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE
YOUR LEADERSHIP IS ONLY WORTH WHAT YOU GIVE AWAY.
Whatever an individual can achieve, a team can do bigger, faster and more effectively. And great teams are full of people that choose an attitude of camaraderie and togetherness. That starts with having a leader that is focused on developing the personal skill of relational intelligence. Even amid challenges, the great leaders choose an attitude of service and kindness towards others.
You can’t give away kindness if you don’t first have an attitude of caring about others.
You can’t give away encouragement if you don’t first have an attitude focused on building others up.
And our leadership…our influence is only worth the gifts we can share with others.
Let’s make it a goal this week to choose an attitude of humility that focuses on treating others with kindness and encouragement. If we want to change the world we must first begin with wisely choosing our attitudes!
Have a great week!
