Making Things Happen
Organizational greatness starts with individual greatness. The question is how we generate greatness from the ordinary. Those who find true success in life do so by learning to be proactive rather than reactive.
In other words, they stop reacting to circumstances and start creating what happens in their lives. It all comes down to choice.
As members of various “teams” in our lives, we are each individually responsible for what we experience and our reactions to everyday occurrences. That is it—it all begins and ends with US! Our experiences and achievements are a direct result of our actions and behaviors.
What do you believe or assume about your participation on the teams to which you belong? What is it that you do…what actions are you performing?
Who you are BEING and what you are DOING ultimately leads to the outcomes and results you are GETTING.
What we HAVE is an outcome of our attitude, understanding, and actions. It’s ironic that we call ourselves human beings, because we tend to be more focused on what we are DOING many times rather than who we are BEING.
Choosing your attitude has to do with taking responsibility every day in every situation. Your thoughts, language, and actions reflect who you are being and what you are doing while at work. The mental aspects of creating focus and positive energy are those most critical to success.
Everything begins and ends with attitude.
When it comes down to it, it is really quite simple: figure out who you want to be and just be that. Nothing happens to you. Yes, we all have circumstances that surround us. But we ALWAYS have a choice in how we respond to those circumstances. Even amid challenges, we can choose to be who we want to be.
The great basketball coach Bobby Knight said “self-discipline is (1) doing what needs to be done; (2) doing it when it needs to be done; (3) doing it the best it can be done; (4) doing that every time you do it.” It means being tough on ourselves for the sake of consistency…denying what we want for the moment in order to succeed at something that we want in the future.
The price of success starts with defining intention. If you want to be successful, you must first be willing to pay the price of admission. Commitment makes it happen.
So…be committed to winning. Be committed to your dream. Get out there and hustle. That drive and “fire in the belly” mentality will make sure that you and your teammates are the ones left standing when all is said and done.
